The creation of a fine cigar begins with top quality, long leaf filler.

The leaves are carefully selected and crimped so that they fold like a fan. This creates long air spaces within the cigar to assure a good draw and consistent flavor. The filler is then rolled into a single binder leaf to form a "bunch". The binder must be carefully chosen to compliment the filler and to provide the desired taste, burn rate and aroma. The bunches are carefully placed in wooden molds, where pressure is applied for up to one hour. During this process the cigars are taken out and rotated to assure a consistent, even shape. In the most critical process in cigar making, the wrapper leaf is meticulously trimmed and applied to the molded "bunch". A single leaf is used, and positioned so that the milder portion is at the foot of the cigar, progressing to the stronger flavors at the head. The final step is the creation of the "cap". In the Cuban tradition, a double layer cap is made from trimmed pieces of the same leaf used for the wrapper.
